Joining Hands with NPO AAR to Help Türkiye
Open hearts urgently needed!
—————–
In the 1980s and 1990s, any boatpeople family — or any family that came to Japan through Vietnam-side sponsorship — with children attending Japanese junior high, high school, or university would have known the names of Japanese humanitarian organizations like the Indochina Refugee Solidarity Association (CSIR), the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR), and many others. All of these groups warmly supported Vietnamese refugees in many ways: scholarships, book vouchers, working with universities to waive tuition fees, and more. Thanks to their care, many young Vietnamese of school age went on to build successful lives. None of us can forget that kindness.
In recent days, the world has been shaken by the catastrophic 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Türkiye on the morning of February 6, collapsing thousands of homes, claiming tens of thousands of lives, and possibly leaving tens of millions facing the bitter cold without shelter. These people are now enduring the kind of suffering we Vietnamese once knew. In Japan, fundraising drives for those affected are already underway, including by the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR / 難民を助ける会).
In a moment of crisis, one hand reaching out to save another — this remains one of the brightest truths running through human history!
Even a small contribution carries great heart. We humbly ask fellow Vietnamese, where circumstances allow, to lend AAR a hand. Bank-transfer details can be found in the image below.
トルコ地震緊急支援 (Türkiye Earthquake Emergency Relief)
We have launched emergency relief efforts for the Türkiye earthquake.
Thank you, as always, for your warm understanding and cooperation with AAR Japan (難民を助ける会).
A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck northwest of Gaziantep in southern Türkiye at 4:17 AM on February 6 (10:17 AM Japan time). Both Japanese and local AAR staff in Türkiye are confirmed safe.
AAR launched emergency relief operations on February 6.
Relief will start in Şanlıurfa, where AAR has prior on-the-ground experience, with preparations underway to distribute aid near the epicenter.
Since 2012, AAR has been continuously supporting Syrian refugees inside Türkiye, and we will leverage that long-built local network to deliver rapid relief.
Local staff report that snow began falling yesterday and a severe cold snap is now affecting the area. Aid is desperately needed by survivors as soon as possible.
Please support AAR’s emergency relief.
