Visiting Phan Bội Châu's Memorial Stele and Cherry Blossom Viewing
Setting out from the bustling Tokyo Station, surrounded by the noise of the city, our group followed a line of cars toward Shizuoka Prefecture. There stands a famous historical site — a story of courage, of love for one’s country, and above all, a deeply moving story of human kindness. More than a hundred years ago at Jorinji Temple, Phan Bội Châu, with the help of local villagers, erected a stone stele inscribed with classical Chinese characters expressing his gratitude to his benefactor, Dr. Asaba Sakitaro. Standing before the stele in solemn reverence, listening to the story told by the leader of our group, our hearts overflowed with emotions difficult to describe. Through wind and rain and the changes of so many eras, the stele still stands tall, a timeless witness to history and a reminder to us, the generations that followed.
Leaving Jorinji Temple, we continued our journey to the banks of the Otakawa River, adorned with cherry blossoms in radiant spring colors. Amid the poetic natural scenery and the clear water of the river, our group rested, shared a meal, and exchanged warm stories filled with affection before heading back to Tokyo.
In closing — we would like to thank the elders and the young members of the organizing team who put so much effort into bringing us together for such a meaningful journey. We sincerely wish all of you good health and success.
