Japanese Presentation Contest 📣📣
(Announcement of contest and call for participating teams)
To deepen friendship among refugee communities settled in Japan and to encourage exchange between the next generation of refugees and settlers and broader Japanese society, the Foundation for the Welfare and Education of the Asian People (FWEAP), in cooperation with the Vietnamese Association in Japan (VAJ), will hold a Japanese presentation contest with the following details:
1️⃣. What is the presentation contest?
(1) This is a new presentation contest that combines the traditional Japanese speech contest format with the use of images, video, and music.
(2) Teams of 3 to 4 people prepare a presentation deck (e.g. with PowerPoint) on the given theme. One person delivers the presentation in front of the slides shown on a large screen. Judges score teams on the message they want to convey, content, delivery, accuracy of Japanese, and so on, to choose the winners.
(3) Please join the briefing session on Sunday, July 25 from 14:00 (see section 2 below) for a detailed explanation of the contest rules.

3️⃣. Theme
The theme is “Japan and Us” — for example, “What you sense about Japan and its people in everyday life,” “Differences between your home country and Japan,” “The future of the Japanese economy,” or any other topic related to Japan that the team wants to express.
4️⃣. Eligibility
(1) Form a team with people whose native language is not Japanese. A team must have 3 to 4 members.
(2) The team must include at least one person who has settled in Japan as a refugee, or who has a family member who is a refugee resident.
(3) The presenter (speaking in Japanese) must have been in Japan for no more than 5 years.
(4) Number of teams: up to 8. If applications exceed this, a document review will be conducted.
(5) A representative from each selected team must attend the July 25 briefing. Details will be sent to each team individually.
(6) Participating teams must agree that videos and photos from the contest may be posted on social media and in PR publications.
5️⃣. Judging
(1) Presentation time: 5 minutes per team. Going over 7 minutes results in point deduction.
(2) Judges will score and rank teams based on:
❶ The message conveyed.
➋ Content of the presentation.
➌ Delivery.
➍ Accuracy of Japanese.
(3) After each presentation, there will be a brief Q&A session in Japanese with the judges. This part is also scored.
6️⃣. Awards and prize money for top teams
(1) Trophies and prize money will be awarded to the top-performing teams.
・1st place: 200,000 yen
・2nd place: 100,000 yen
・3rd place: 50,000 yen
(2) The first-place team will be invited to the “42nd Gathering of Refugees Settled in Japan,” scheduled for Sunday, December 5 this year, to perform their presentation again and be honored once more in front of attendees.
