The Vietnamese Association in Japan is deeply saddened to announce the passing of
Mr. An Tôn Vũ Đăng Khuê
Born on November 21, 1952 in Sơn Tây, Vietnam
A former international student in Japan since 1971.
Founding member of the Vietnamese Association in Japan.
Former Editor-in-Chief of the Association’s monthly bulletin and the Kháng Chiến supplement.
Former lecturer in Vietnamese language at several universities in Tokyo and Kanagawa.
He was called home to the Lord at 6:40 a.m. on August 6, 2025.
During his student years in Japan, Mr. Vũ Đăng Khuê led a student music group. After 1975, he devoted himself to the Vietnamese refugee community through cultural, journalistic, and volunteer activities, as well as through the movement for human rights, freedom, and democracy in Vietnam.
He also taught Vietnamese language at well-known universities such as Keio and J.F. Oberlin.
In recent years, despite his advanced age and declining health, Mr. Vũ Đăng Khuê continued to actively support the activities of the Association with valuable writings on Japan and its rich culture.
His passing is a loss our community will deeply feel.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and pray that the Lord receives the soul of An Tôn into the Heavenly Kingdom.

August 9: Funeral Mass at 10:00 at the Catholic Sagamihara Church (カトリック相模原教会)

- August 12: Wake (通夜式) from 18:00 to 20:00 at Sagamihara City Funeral Hall (相模原市営斎場)
